The race is still underway as I write this. But it looks like a fairly boring win for Nico.
This week I made 'bolo de rolo'. Effectively swiss roll only thinner.
A cake mix with no rising agent, makes dense sponge, coated in sugar and jam before rolling up.
My attempt is far from genuine. I couldn't get guava jam, so used strawberry. The mixture should have been more runny and made twice the number of sponges. The intended 20 layers is more like 8. And Sian thinks it isn't cooked!
It ended up dense and tasting of nothing more than the jam. And thus it surely can't be anything like the real thing. I'm not sure this even qualifies to having made bolo de rolo.
